In addition to preventing cerebral spinal fluid leakage, Cerafix has the additional benefit of supporting new tissue ingrowth. Use Cases

Endoscopic Transsphenoidal Procedure

Cerafix offers synthetic support for tissue in-growth and patient healing after minimally-invasive endoscopic transsphenoidal procedures. Cerafix can be easily positioned with an endoscopic tool and sutured in place to support healing in the dura mater.

Endoscopic Resection for Pituitary Meningioma

Cerafix supports dura mater repair following endoscopic transsphenoidal procedures. Cerafix can be rolled and easily delivered to the defect area where it can be manipulated to fit appropriately and held in place by a non-tension suture.

Craniotomy and Supratentorial Aneurysm Clipping

After a supratentorial craniotomy, Cerafix can be used in the repair of dura mater following exposure. To achieve water-tight closure, secure Cerafix with a running suture applied in a non-tension fashion.

Can Cerafix be used on pediatric or pregnant patients?

Cerafix Dura Substitute device safety and efficacy has not been evaluated for pediatric and pregnant patients.

Can I suture Cerafix?

Suturing is not required, but if desired, Cerafix can be sutured in place with tensionless suture material.

How do I store Cerafix?

Cerafix has a two-year shelf life from the packaging date when stored at ambient temperatures. Refer to the expiration date on the product box for details. Store at room temperature. Avoid excessive heat or humidity. Do not refrigerate.

Is there a specific requirement for applying Cerafix (i.e. top or bottom)?

No, there is no specific orientation required for application. Apply with either side to the brain.

On what size of defect can Cerafix be used as treatment?

Cerafix is indicated for defects of 4.9 in² (31.7 cm²) or less in area. For example, 4.0 in x 1.2 in (10.0 cm x 3.1 cm) would be an acceptable defect size.
