Femoral-Popliteal Bypass

Patient History

Patient is a 62-year-old male with a history of diabetes mellitus and Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD). He presented in clinic with distal lower extremity coldness and diminished sensation below the knee, indicating compromised blood flow to the lower extremity.

Treatment

An angiogram revealed significant narrowing of the belowknee popliteal artery, consistent with the patient’s clinical presentation and confirming reduced distal perfusion requiring surgical intervention. An in-situ femoral-to-belowknee popliteal artery bypass was subsequently performed using the patient’s native saphenous vein to restore blood flow to the lower extremity. Two incisions were made: the first at the proximal site of the femoral artery of the groin and the second more distal to access the popliteal artery. Restrata MiniMatrix® was dispersed across both incisions to treat the tunneling and undermining aspects of the surgical soft-tissue defects.

Conclusion

The patient went on to heal without post-operative complications. All surgical wounds healed successfully, without evidence of infection, dehiscence or seroma formation. Routine follow-up confirmed stable recovery and improved perfusion to the affected limb.

Restrata MiniMatrix is indicated for wound management only and not soft tissue reinforcement.
