5th Metatarsal Amputation and Osteomyelitis Treatment

Patient History

Patient is a 70-year-old female who presented to clinic with osteomyelitis of the right fifth metatarsal following previous treatment of a soft-tissue defect. Patient has a past medical history of peripheral neuropathy, type 2 diabetes, and Gullain- Barre syndrome.

Treatment

The patient was taken to the operating room (OR) to undergo a fifth metatarsectomy and a resultant peroneus brevis tendon transfer to the cuboid bone to optimize post-surgical foot function. Following removal of all dead bone tissue*, Restrata Sheet was implanted into the surgical defect to provide subcutaneous mechanical support and mitigate potential risk for post- surgical complications.1,2

Conclusion

The patient went on to fully heal via primary closure three months following implantation of Restrata Sheet. No complications were noted throughout the healing process. Full range of motion and minimal scar tissue formation was observed.

Please refer to product Instructions for Use for a full list of indications, contraindications, precautions, and warnings.

*Infection was controlled and no longer present at the time of the initial Restrata application.
