Full-Thickness Scalp Defect

Patient History

Patient is a 55-year-old female, presented to Emergency Department with a scalp abscess. History of DM-II, breast cancer, malnourishment, and hypothyroidism.*

Treatment

The patient was taken to the OR for irrigation and debridement (I&D) of the abscess followed by the application of Restrata Sheet to the surgical wound. Over the course of the next 8 weeks, the soft tissue defect generated granulation tissue post Restrata application. The patient was non-compliant and refused to wear any wound/head covering 1 week post Restrata application. **

Conclusion

The patient received one application of Restrata to the surgical wound. By Week 8, a healthy granulation tissue base had developed, and the patient received a split-thickness skin graft (STSG). By two weeks post STSG application, the graft had 100% take.
