Necrotizing Fasciitis of the Lateral Right Foot

Patient History

Patient is a 51-year-old male who presented to the emergency room with necrotizing fasciitis of the lateral right foot. The patient has a past medical history of diabetes mellitus.

Treatment

Patient was taken to the operating room for surgical debridement to remove any infected/necrotic tissue followed by application of Restrata® Meshed to the surgical wound.* The patient received a singular application of Restrata Meshed at time of debridement.

Conclusion

Over the next 15 weeks, a healthy bed of granulation tissue was formed throughout the soft-tissue defect. As Restrata continued to resorb into the wound bed, wound surface area decreased as re-epithelialization occurred. By week 15, full closure was achieved via secondary intention, noting zero complications throughout the healing process.

*Infection was controlled and no longer present at the time of the inital Restrata application.

**Disclaimer: Restrata has not been studied in wounds that extend into the tendon, muscle, joint capsule, or bone. Restrata should not be applied until excessive exudate, bleeding, acute swelling, and infection is controlled. Please refer to the Instructions for Use for a full list of indications, contraindications, precautions, and warnings.
